A new picture of former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Omar Abdullah is going viral on social media platforms. In the picture, Omar Abdullah is standing next to a doctor. The former chief minister can be seens porting a full-grown beard in the picture. The identity of the person standing next to him in the picture is yet to be established.

Omar Abdullah was first shifted into detention on the intervening night of August 4-5 last year. He was put under house arrest under section 107 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC), 1973. His detention was extended in February of this year under the Public Safety Act (PSA), 1953.

On Monday, the J&K administration told the Supreme Courtof India that the preventive detention of Omar Abdullah's detention for overseven months is justified citing him a "threat to public order". Thecourt cannot review his detention, claimed the J&K administration.

The argument was made as a bench of SC Justices Arun Mishraand Indira Banerjee was hearing a plea filed by Omar Abdullah's sister SaraAbdullah Pilot. In her plea, Sara Abdullah Pilot challenged her brother Omar'sdetention. The response on behalf of the J&K administration was filed by SolicitorGeneral Tushar Mehta.

Former J&K CMs Farooq Abdullah, Omar Abdullah andMehbooba Mufti were detained in August of last year along with other localpolitical leaders. These detentions were sanctioned ahead of the introductionof the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation Bill that was passed in both houses ofparliament in the first week of August.
